Toongabbie is a tiny, historic township in Gippsland with a big community heart – perfect if you want your wedding to feel warm, local and a little bit old-fashioned in the best way. About two hours east of Melbourne and just north of Traralgon, it started life as a supply town for the Walhalla goldfields and still has that “step back in time” charm with restored buildings, tree-lined streets and views towards the foothills of the Great Dividing Range.

The hero venue here is the Toongabbie Mechanics Institute Hall – a beautifully restored heritage hall used for dances, balls, weddings and community events for generations. It comes with a spacious hall, commercial-style kitchen and access to the neighbouring village green, giving you plenty of room for ceremonies, receptions and photos in one spot. Around town you’ve also got the Toongabbie Wetlands, historic churches and the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail, all great for relaxed photos and pre- or post-wedding walks.

Guests can base themselves in nearby Traralgon, Glengarry or other Latrobe Valley towns, then head out to Toongabbie for a country celebration that feels genuine, friendly and totally unpretentious.
