At Bloomfield, each arrangement is more than just flowers; it’s a narrative woven from nature’s finest. Her creations transcend mere decoration, striving instead to evoke emotion and create enduring memories.

“I’m passionate about capturing the essence of each occasion,” Michelle shares. “My designs aim to elevate spaces with a delicate balance of soft, feminine blooms and the subtle interplay of textures and tones. It’s about crafting floral moments that not only adorn but also define, leaving a lasting impression.”

Guided by the ever-changing beauty of seasons and inspired by the whimsical allure of garden aesthetics, Bloomfield’s floral arrangements breathe life into every celebration. Whether in the Yarra Valley, Gippsland, Mornington Peninsula, or Melbourne, Michelle and her team at Bloomfield Flower Farm stand ready to transform your vision into reality, one bloom at a time.

1. Start with Your Vision

Before diving into flower selections, consider the overall style and feel of your wedding. Are you dreaming of a romantic garden vibe, timeless elegance, or modern minimalism? Your floral designs should harmonise with your theme and venue.

2. Embrace Seasonal Blooms

Working with flowers in season ensures they’re at their most vibrant and fresh. Plus, it’s a sustainable choice that can often save on costs. Let the season inspire your palette and arrangements!

3. Create a Focal Point

Think about the areas that will make the biggest impact – like your ceremony arch, reception centrepieces, or sweetheart table. A few well-placed, show-stopping arrangements can transform the space.

4. Don’t Forget the Little Details

Florals aren’t just for bouquets and centrepieces. Incorporate them into smaller details like aisle decorations, cake flowers, or even floral crowns for the bridal party. These touches add layers of beauty and cohesiveness.

5. Trust Your Designer

Your florist is an artist who knows how to bring your vision to life. Share your ideas, then trust their expertise to select blooms and arrangements that fit your style, budget, and venue.

6. Stay True to You

Your flowers should reflect your personality and story as a couple. Whether you’re bold and colourful or soft and understated, your floral design can speak volumes about who you are.

What inspired you to start Bloomfield and how has your journey as a floral designer evolved over time?

Bloomfield came about after years of being a very busy Mum to three young children, running a small family business and the general busyness of family life. I was at a stage where I wanted to start investing a little more time into some of my own personal goals and strengths. My passion had always lay with creating beauty in nature, so to start Bloomfield just seemed like a perfectly natural progression for me.

Funnily enough though when Bloomfield was first created, I had no intention of starting wedding & events design. I purely just wanted to grow and perhaps start offering some farm bouquets to the local community. However, about 6 months in, my neighbour approached me to ask if I would consider doing his Granddaughter’s flowers for her wedding. Up until this point I had never considered it but thought ‘why not?’. Perhaps if it hadn’t been for that ‘leap of faith’ I would never have had the opportunity to see where it all would go!

Fast forward to today and I am 100% invested in my time as a floral designer for weddings and I simply adore it!

How does working closely with couples help you create floral designs that truly reflect their unique wedding vision?

Trust. It’s such an important factor when booking with any wedding vendor. If you adore and love a vendor’s work, then that is one of the greatest things you have to ensure that together, something absolutely magical will evolve for your special day.

Your designs are deeply connected to nature and the seasons. Can you share how this connection influences the creative process?

Working alongside the seasons and celebrating what Mother Nature has to offer is an integral part of my designs. It offers your designs the opportunities to showcase what is best at the time of your wedding, along with also having each couple appreciate that seasonality brings a constant evolvement of change also.

What is the most magical part of designing florals for weddings, and how do you weave love and intention into every piece

For me, it’s definitely a ‘happy dance’ moment when you receive words of pure appreciation and happiness from your couples following their special day. You know yourself that you have poured your heart and soul into creating their pieces, but to hear it or read it…that validates it all so much. Each design from Bloomfield has had so much thought, care, love and time put into them, that I hope this truly shines through – creating pieces that are bespoke and align with both myself as a designer and my couples I work with is truly so important to me.

With flowers sourced from your farm, local growers and the Yarra Valley, how do you choose the perfect blooms for each bespoke design?

Developing excellent relationships with local growers is key – I’ve gotten to know many amazing local growers and they are some of the hardest working people you’ll ever come across! Flowers are a luxury item and the amount of work and dedication that has gone into each stem to make them ‘wedding worthy’ is huge!Knowing the seasons and being adaptable through the hardships that Mother Nature throws at us is also a vital skill – as a floral designer it’s super important to work with her and honour what she provides – the ups and the downs and honouring the seasons as best you can in designs

If you could describe the essence of Bloomfield in three words, what would they be, and why?

Authentic – as a designer I have always known that I wanted Bloomfield’s creative works to reflect who I am as a designer and how these align with my brand. Remaining authentic and true to my style is important and working with couples who trust that I will create something beautiful and bespoke for their special day is important to me.

Unique – each Bloomfield design is unique and one of a kind. It’s exciting to work with my couples to ensure that their day and floral art is not just a carbon copy of somebody else’s, but instead that it reflects them as a couple, creates elegance and makes memories to last a lifetime.

Personalised – from the very first enquiry, right through to the pack down of your special day, it’s completely me all the way! It’s one of the nicest parts of the whole process – getting to know my couples by working closely with them to ensure they feel guided and valued. Seeing it all come together on each and every couple’s special day is truly the best type of feeling!
