Gracefully weaving between lovers and guests in the sparkle of twilight and wedding bliss, is the lead creative of Our Følklore, Jarrod. He exudes calm and peacefulness, and can’t help but take a brief opportunity to embrace the dance floor, whilst capturing some of the special moments that couples love to relive. He takes a moment to check in with the couple and give them a break from being filmed, to really soak in the array of emotions the day has brought. “Weddings are beautiful and also so hectic. Many couples reflect on feeling as though they didn’t get a chance to talk to everyone. It all happens so quickly. I remember the feeling well. And the sore face from smiling so much!” he laughs.
Jarrod first developed an interest in videography when he began filming events for family, and eventually became enchanted with the joys of filming his first child and young family life.
“I brought my camera with us one day in late Autumn, and filmed Lysette and Halo just living life. The messy moments, the laughter, the tired smiles and endless floor play…then I turned it into a music video of sorts. A family film. We decided to start offering these little time capsule films to other families, and I still do them today.”
It’s clear that Jarrod is fascinated by people. He’s warm and attentive during conversation and loves to hear people’s stories. “The rebrand to Our Følklore was such a necessary step in my own growth and understanding. I realised that the stories I was capturing – the weddings, the family films, the business origins – they were what brought this whole thing to life. They were the absolute heartbeat. It wasn’t just my small business – it was a collection of stories from the community around us. It was this shared folklore. Whether profoundly unique or resonantly relatable. Our Følklore had become a place to share with each other some of the more intimate aspects of our lives.”
Jarrod’s films are both minimal and breathtaking. Both personal and universal. You can’t help but fall in love with the couples when you watch these wedding films. There’s something so intimate about them. They’re pretty of course, but they’re also so uniquely personal. It’s almost like a mixture of the dazzling main event and also the candid ‘behind the scenes’.
“I don’t want to be just another vendor to my couples,” Jarrod says earnestly, “I want to really get to know them. We always meet up beforehand to chat and it’s always a lot of fun! It’s so awesome for me to hear them talk about each other and how they met. As well as the challenges they’ve faced and the dreams they have. We always end up laughing and occasionally crying. I would never miss this pre-wedding catch up. It’s too special.”
