The love story, something so funny
Danni & Karl met just over five years ago and something Danni shares “I’ll never forget our first disagreement after meeting in person for the first time – over whether pineapple belongs on pizza! Karl is firmly in the ‘no’ camp, while I happily devour it. On the first night we hung out, he sweetly and chivalrously ordered my favourite Hawaiian pizza, even though he didn’t agree with it!”
The engagement
It was Christmas Eve, and I was heavily pregnant with little Willem. Karl and I decided to take Bear, our beloved pooch, for a walk at a nearby park. As we strolled along the path, I was completely engrossed in reading the earthworm information boards that lined the walkway, oblivious to anything else around me. Then, out of the blue, Karl asked me to turn around. Completely caught off guard, I did so, wondering what he had in mind. What happened next remains one of those sweet, unexpected moments I’ll always cherish.
One piece of advice
My advice to couples getting married is simple: don’t overthink it. Just show up, and everything else will fall into place. Trust the process, enjoy the moment, and let the day unfold naturally.
The gown
Danni chose her wedding dress from Bec + Bridge because it was the perfect blend of beautiful and casual, which felt just right for our day. I wanted something that wasn’t entirely traditional, but still elegant, and this dress captured that beautifully. The flowing fabric and modern yet timeless design made it feel like me – comfortable, relaxed, and effortlessly stunning. It was everything I dreamed of.
The venue
Danni and Karl chose the charming Mirador Springs Retreat for their wedding ceremony, a serene cottage that offered the perfect blend of privacy and comfort. Nestled in a peaceful setting close to home, it provided them with a peaceful sanctuary to unwind and chill. The retreat’s intimate atmosphere was the ideal location for a personal, meaningful ceremony, offering both tranquility and beauty in a setting they could call their own.
Favourite ceremony details
Our ceremony was absolutely perfect, and honestly, it happened by complete fluke. We ended up having it on a picnic blanket, glasses in hand, in a way that wasn’t planned at all. It just unfolded naturally, and somehow, it felt so right. The casual, relaxed vibe made it feel even more special, and it was one of those moments that couldn’t have been more beautiful, even if we had planned it down to the last detail.
Favourite memory
While little Willem was peacefully asleep with my girlfriend, Karl and I took the opportunity to wander off with Jodie, our photographer. We shared some funny, sweet, and loving moments, creating memories we’ll cherish forever through her photos. It was such a special time, capturing the essence of our love in the most beautiful way.
Favourite vendors
We kept our vendor list small, but Alana and Jodie truly made our wedding day unforgettable. Their attention to detail, creativity, and warmth brought everything together perfectly. Alana’s coordination kept everything running smoothly, while Jodie captured the most beautiful moments, turning them into timeless memories. We’re so grateful to have had them as part of our special day!
