bronte & ben

a gorgeous love story at Mewburn

Bronte and Ben originally met through mutual friends at a local house party back in early 2013. At that meeting, they didn’t take any notice of each other at the time. A few weeks later, Bronte recognised Ben at the local TAFE where they were both studying. Bronte shared, that after a cheeky Facebook stalk (as you do, she wrote!), Bronte sent Ben a cheeky ‘poke’ and the rest of their beautiful love story is history.

The Proposal

When Bronte and Ben rescued their Border Collie fur baby Tilly, Ben knew that he wanted to involve Tilly in his proposal to Bronte. In December 2018, they went for a drive to where they had just purchased their block of land and on the way home they stopped to take Tilly for a run. Ben had a tag engraved saying ‘will you marry me’ and attached it onto Tilly’s collar. After a quick run, Bronte realized there was something dangling from Tilly’s collar and Tilly came over and lo and behold Bronte turned around and Ben was on one knee.

Originally Bronte and Ben had booked their wedding in Queensland and after two postponements and almost a third due to the border closure, they decided to relocate their whole wedding to Victoria during the 5 day snap lockdown in February 2021. They came across Mewburn Park Homestead purely by chance. As it happened, Mewburn were available on the date they were supposed to be married in QLD, which was the Sunday following the expected lockdown end date. They knew it was going to be a huge risk to take. They came out of the lockdown on the Wednesday prior, visited Mewburn for the first time on the Thursday, and were married there on the Sunday! Naturally they didn’t have much time to think about some of the finer details of the day. The whole day was their favourite memory and of course having Tilly (their fur baby) as their ring bearer. Bronte and Ben loved the day and Bronte shared ‘everyone was just so excited to be there to celebrate with us, that was such a beautiful memory!’

One Piece of Advice

Don’t sweat the small stuff! The day will flow perfectly, and everything will fall into place if you let it. It’s not about the small things that happen, but it’s how you react to them. Make sure you set aside some time together to step back and soak it all in. Keep an open mind and enjoy every minute of the day.
